Experimental fluid mechanics 2013

19.11.2013 - 22.11.2013
Kutná Hora (Czech Republic)

Papers are published in The European Physical Journal

The conference will focus on obtaining an overview of projects under investigation, and experimental methods used in the field of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. Its aim is to organize a network of young research workers who are interested in experimental, and also theoretical, work in the field of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. The conference should contribute to creating the closer contacts and sharing experience in application of various experimental methods, preparation and implementation of experiments, processing of results and numerical simulations of experiments.

Scientific and technical topics

The conference will focus on obtaining an overview of projects under investigation, and experimental methods used in the field of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. Its aim is to organize a network of young research workers who are interested in experimental, and also theoretical, work in the field of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. The conference should contribute to creating the closer contacts and sharing experience in application of various experimental methods, preparation and implementation of experiments, processing of results and numerical simulations of experiments.

The main topics of the conference are:

Acceptance and publishing of papers

Accepted papers (in English) will be published in the proceedings and on CD-ROM.

For the purpose of publishing the paper in the proceedings it is necessary to send it by on-line form found at efm.kez.tul.cz before 22nd September 2013. The paper must be in the format corresponding to the pattern published at the web pages of the conference. The name of the file (in *.pdf or *.doc format) that contains the paper should be as following:

Surname of the author_first name. *

Your paper should not exceed the size of 20 MB (If it does, please, contact the organizers). Early payment of the registration fee for authors of papers is before 16th September 2013. The registration fee can be also paid later after this date. If the registration fee is not paid, the paper will not be published. Receipt or confirmation of the bank transfer of registration fee to the conference bank account is necessary to be delivered to the organizers of the conference immediately after the transaction (please, send a letter, fax, email). Non publishing participants can pay the registration fee at the beginning of the conference.

The official language of the conference is English.

Keynote lectures

20.11.2013 - Dr. Tim Persoons, Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland - High Dynamic Range Particle Image Velocimetry Applied to Heat Convection Studies

Dr. Tim PersoonsDr. ir. Tim Persoons is Assistant Professor in Engineering (Sustainable Energy) in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. He was a visiting Marie Curie Research Fellow in the NSF I/UCRC Cooling Technologies Research Center at Purdue University, West Lafayette, In., USA (2009-2011) and invited Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, K.U.Leuven, Belgium (2009-2010). Tim was awarded the MSc(Eng) degree in K.U.Leuven (1999) and the DrEng (PhD) degree in K.U.Leuven (2006). He was appointed Research Fellow of the Irish Research Council in 2008, and Marie Curie Fellow of the Irish Research Council in 2010. His current research interests include convective heat transfer in large and micro-scale electronics cooling systems using unsteady jets, active fluidic control of sustainable energy devices, and developing experimental measurement techniques for heat transfer and fluid dynamics. He has authored over 25 refereed journal articles, 40 conference publications and 10 keynote and invited lectures. He is a member of the Therminic scientific committee, a frequent reviewer for leading thermo-fluids journals, has served as Guest Editor for the ASME Journal of Electronic Packaging (2009-2010), and has co-organized a number of technical-scientific workshops (e.g., Therminic 2009, PowerMEMS 2010, Workshops on Thermal Management in Telecom Systems and Data Centers 2010, 2012).

21.11.2013 - Dr. H.C. de Lange, Eindhoven University of Technology, Eindhoven, The Netherlands - Combining the merits of experiments and numerics in flow stability analysis

Dr. H.C. de LangeDr. de Lange is associate professor in the research group for " Energy Technology" of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Eindhoven University of Technology. He has specialized in the study of bypass-transition in boundary layers (a cooperate study with researchers at KTH, Stockholm). In his research he combines integral flow-field experiments (using PIV) with numerical simulations on flow details to study the mechanism of breakdown to turbulence.
